Rituals of the old development has started

Rituals of the Old is an upcoming PC title from an independent Finnish game studio Star and Serpent for Linux, Mac and Windows.

Rituals of the Old is a multiplayer sandbox voxel game of crafting, roleplaying and adventure in an open random generated world.

The game is currently at a planning stage and we are doing some sketches, talking among ourselves about the direction we are going to take etc.

I spent yesterday 6 hours relearning my Blender 3D skills with the help of some very good basic tutorials.

It's been almost 10 years since I've used Blender for 3D modeling and the UI has changed and I have much learning to do to get my skills up to speed.

I also created today a sketch outlining the inventory slots that we are going to use in the game. Currently we have 43 inventory slots planned which you can see detailed in the sketch below.

As a gamer I’ve always been rather disappointed with the lack of inventory slots in games.

Let’s think about rings for example: You usually have your average 10 healthy fingers so why do game developers keep adding consistently 2 lousy slots for rings? What about the rest of the fingers? I’m sure there are some solid reasonings from the game balance perspective in having only two ring slots on a player character. Perhaps there are loads of magic rings in the game and the developers don’t wish to give the players too much buffs? But... I prefer to think of it as the developers being lazy and taking the short way.

Give me a bit of unbalance and those 10 magic rings any day and stop patronising me! And maybe stop dropping those magic rings from every rat and bunny.
